Real or Fake?

Today we continued our work on smart media. As smart learners we will ask ourselves 2 questions when we are looking at anything online...

  • is it real or is it fake?
  • who can I trust?
  • Today we looked at some photos and decided if they were real or fake. We also talked about why people alter photos.

Then we created some fake photos to try to convince others of what we do at our school.
Here are some of our photos...

Celebrating Cultural diversity in our classroom and school.

The lunchtime art group took it upon themselves to create a piece of artwork that honored the cultural diversity of our classrooms and parish community.

We decided to go with the idea of a sculpture. Every Wednesday lunchtime the art group would get together to research and draw designs.

Over the summer holiday some of these designs were chosen and made into the metal plates.

These metal plates show some of the cultures at our school.

During term 2 and 3 Room 4 took on the challenge to sand and varnish this beautiful piece of wood that my family had donated.

Thomas, Chanel, Stella and Jakob A were very keen to use crystals as part of the design. They are a symbol of light and love.

We finally completed the design with the Whakatauki plate.

It means - Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work.

As a school Saint Mary’s is built on the ideals of Mary Mackillop. Children are the centre of everything we do and the beauty and uniqueness of their cultural backgrounds are honored and celebrated here.

Thank you everyone who has shared this journey with us, contributed materials, time, and skills to help this amazing sculpture find it’s resting place in front of our school.

Kawa of Care & Quality Blog Posts

This week in our Cybersmart lesson we were writing a quality blog post to go with our Kawa of Care revision from last week.

We were working on extending our ideas and writing full sentences to display more about our learning.

Here is Rylee's work. Do you think she has given a clear explanation about what were were doing? Do you have any questions for her? You could ask here on her blog here.

Today I was learning to explore blogs and write about how much blog post they have posted in 2020 it was fun and i learnt lots.

My new learning was to click on the world map and if you click location it will show you how much countries has visited.

I enjoyed finding out how much posts they have posted in 2020

I found it challenging to click on the world to see the countries that have visited

My digital learning object shows I can read blogs and find information, put the information into a table, embed my slides into my blog.

Next time I would change the writing and make it detailed and interesting.

    Blog Statistics

Today in our Cybersmart lesson we were exploring blogs and looking for information on them.
We had to look carefully at the side bars to find some statistics.
We looked at how many people had visited the blogs, how many different countries these visitors were from and how many blog posts they had done in 2019.

Have you looked at your blog statistics recently?
How do they compare with these one that Jakob R found?

    Matariki Kites

This week we have studied the traditional shapes and styles of Maori Kites. As part of our Matariki celebrations we have made our own kites and tested them out. We enjoy learning about our history and traditions. We are exploring how being a great learner often is a result of not getting things right the first time. Sometime we have to try many different ways to be successful. We had a lot of fun in between the down pores of rain!
